In a strange incident, a Bengaluru man got Rs 1 lakh compensation from an Apple India service centre for allegedly damaging his device. The man, identified as Awez Khan, who is a resident of Frazer Town area in Bengaluru owned an iPhone 13.

Awez bought the iPhone 13 October 2021 with one year warranty. However, within a couple of months, he started facing several battery and speaker-related issues, which led him to seek assistance from an Apple service centre in Indiranagar.

Khan was assured by the service centre that the issues would get fixed and he would receive his phone back within one week’s time. He received a call within a few days from the service centre saying that the issues had been fixed and he could come and collect his phone.

After receiving the phone the man again started facing similar issues.

When Awez reported the issue, the service centre asked him to deposit his device for a look. But even after weeks, they didn’t respond to the man.

Eventually, when the user went to receive his phone back from the service centre he was told that an adhesive-like substance was found on the phone while fixing it. Also, the fixing of the phone would not come under the one-year warranty period.

The man in October 2022 sent a legal notice to the service centre to which they didn’t respond. He later filed a complaint in December at the local district consumer disputes redressal commission. After taking cognisance of the matter, the commission recently heard the plea and ordered Apple to pay Rs 79,900 with interest and an additional Rs 20,000 as compensation to Awez.
